Case Closed

The death of former Wilco member (and hands down genius of the group) Jay Bennett finally has a cause: fentanyl. Billboard magazine reported yesterday that Bennett overdosed on the pain killer and his death is still being investigated as a possible accident. Fentanyl is used to treat chronic breakthrough pain, and is 100 times more potent than morphine. Bennett was having hip problems and had many surgeries, and even tried to sue Jeff Tweedy for royalties relating to the band's documentary I Am Trying To Break Your Heart and their back catalog.

I'm not sure if there's any Tweedy connection here, as he had his own problems with drugs and was in rehab prior to the recording of 2004's A Ghost Is Born. Either way, Jay Bennett made Wilco the band it is today, and played as Tweedy's McCartney on the band's best three albums: Being There, Summerteeth, and Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.
